Good Morning, Saratoga Springs!

Norah Dempsey, age 9, a 4th grader at The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs makes a sign for her bedroom window to promote the arrival of Circus Smirkus in her home town!

It’s a glorious day for a circus!

We’re pretty proud of our 25th anniversary, but The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs has outdone us, with a 30th anniversary this year. That’s 30 years of inspiring a life-long love of learning,  of cultivating academic knowledge, artistic work, and practical skills. Part of the celebration is to bring Circus Smirkus back for the sixth  summer in a row. We’ll be performing  four shows today and tomorrow, under the Big Top at the Saratoga Race Course.

From the school’s website: “The Waldorf Schools recognize the simple but profound insight that children learn in distinctly different ways at different stages of their development. They also learn by encountering the world as experience. Waldorf teachers strive to educate the human being through all three soul capacities of thinking, feeling, and will (doing). In each subject, whether it is history or language, math or science, painting, singing or movement, teaching is essentially an artistic process. Waldorf Education encourages the development of each child’s sense of truth, beauty, and goodness, an antidote to violence, alienation, and cynicism.”

The Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs is proud of all of its programs, including its high school; and is delighted  to point out that their seniors are accepted to the colleges and university of their choosing. Graduates of the Class of 2012 were accepted in colleges and universities from around the country, including several of the SUNY schools, the University of Vermont, University of Texas at Austin, Rochester Institute of Technology, St John’s College, and Clark University, to name a few. A Smirkus “graduate,” Taylor Wright-Sanson, is now a senior at Wheaton College in Massachusetts.  Who knows where or what his brother, Keenan, a Smirkus performer and WSSS student, will aspire to?

Our performances  are at 1 & 7 pm today and tomorrow. Proceeds benefit the school.  Tickets are available at 877-SMIRKUS (877-764-7587) or at http://www.smirkus.org, and, if available, at the ticket booth which opens 1 hour before show time. But first show today is sold out (a few tickets might be available at the door), so don’t take a chance! Buy in advance!
