We Are Off to a Wonderful Start

Ivan James

Ivan James, Big Top Tour trouper 2014-2016 Ivan grew up in Montpelier Vermont, where he was exposed to circus and theater. He toured with the Smirkus Big top Tour for three years and is excited to come back and inspire the next generation of performers. He has previously coached acrobatics, breakdancing, clowning, and parkour. Ivan has performed with Cirque Us, at the Smithsonian Folklife festival, and with Junk Theater co. Editor’s Note: This post was written by Camp Communications Intern Magdalene McCaffrey Smirkus Camp welcomed in our youngest campers to Smirkling Camp 2019, bright and early Friday, June 15! 70 campers, accompanied by their grownups, arrived and started off the day with registration and hula-hooping before the grownups said goodbye for the weekend. Campers gathered in the Balance Barn for introductory games and fun before the first sessions began at 10am. Assigned to color groups called Purple, Red, Blue and Green, the campers rotated between juggling, acrobatics, aerials, and clowning until noon. Each group had a chance to try out each skill before…

Ivy Blake

Ivy Blake, Multi-tent Coach Sessions: Intermediate Camp, Advanced Camp Ivy Blake is human person from New England. Ivy hails from the greater Boston area and started attending Smirkus Camp at age 11. She was immediately drawn to the community she found there: fiercely joyful, accepting of everyone’s weird, tough as nails, and committed to making magic. The next six summers were the same. Ivy kept dance, circus, and theatre in her life through the end of high school.
