Billy Higgins
Billy Higgins, Clowning Tent Lead, All Sessions
Billy Higgins is a multidisciplinary clown, performer and devised theatre maker. Currently based in New York City, Billy has coached and written pedagogy for The New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA), and teaches on the movement faculty at Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
He has also served as a lead coach with Prescott Circus Theater and The Children’s Circus of Middletown. Billy served in partnership with U.S. State Department as Cultural Ambassador as both act creation coach and featured clown with the international award winning Turkmen State Circus. He has also taught and as a featured guest performing artist at The University of Wyoming, Western Washington University, and Samuel Beckett Center in Dublin, Ireland.
As an actor, he has been seen at the Samuel Beckett Center, (The Wolves of Mibu, In the Sawtooths), Berkeley Repertory Theatre (Treasure island, Lookingglass Theatre co-production) and has performed throughout the Pacific Northwest and into Indonesia with the Dell’Arte Company (Through The Seams, Babes In ToyLand, The Devil and Billy Markham, Podiatryst, A Harvest of Stones, Laughter! A Clown Play, Commedia Unleashed). His solo storytelling work Pitching to Privateers toured by traditionally rigged tall ship to critical and audience acclaim throughout New England, the Canadian Maritime Provinces, and all five Great Lakes.
Billy’s work in dance includes developing new works and training in Graham technique with Donlin Foreman, and collaborations with Laura Munoz on immersive pieces utilizing the natural world. He was most recently in residency in with Lisa Giobbi in the development of her new work, DeThrowned at The Muse Brooklyn. BFA Theater and Dance, University of Wyoming, M.Ph.
